Founded over a hundred years ago in Freeport, Maine, L.L.Bean (named for founder Leon Leonwood Bean) is one of the premier retailers in the country for outdoor shoes, gear, and apparel. From duck boots to fleece-lined flannel shirts and more, L.L.Bean products have an iconic status all their own, which makes them not only practical (especially during a blizzard), but also really fashionable too.

Whether you’re shopping for presents for him, her, or just for yourself, L.L.Bean offers a wide variety of products that are versatile enough to draw out and complement the outdoor adventurer in all of us. Here are 25 of the best things to buy at L.L.Bean that’ll help make your fall and winter months even better.

1. These legendary Bean Boots

I fell in love with Bean Boots back in college, when it seemed as though every person on my campus (in western Massachusetts) had a pair. I didn’t get my own until after I graduated, but I’m happy to report that my original pair—the basic 8-inch boots in Navy—have been going strong for eight New England winters now.

Waterproof and distinctive, Bean Boots are a staple during the coldest months of the year and they’re L.L.Bean’s most recognizable product, so whether you opt for a basic pair like I did or spring for one that’s more luxurious (like the shearling-lined boots, which cost $229 but look so incredibly worth it), you really can’t go wrong with these.

Get the L.L.Bean Women’s 8-Inch Bean Boots for $139
Get the L.L.Bean Women’s 8-inch Bean Boots, Shearling-Lined, for $229
Get the L.L.Bean Men’s 8-Inch Bean Boots for $139
Get the L.L.Bean Men’s 10-inch Bean Boots, Shearling-Lined, for $249
2. The only mom bag you’ll ever need

The Boat and Tote is the quintessential ”mom bag.” Understated and elegant, these double-layered canvas bags are sturdy and can hold a lot. From extra snacks to a spare sweater or two, this bag can pack it all. Reviewers say that it’s perfect to use in place of plastic bags too, so if you’re shopping at the farmer’s market or just trying to be more sustainable, this is definitely the tote you want to bring along for your groceries.

Get the Boat and Tote Canvas Bag for $39.95

3. These ultra-cozy flannel shirts

If I could drape myself in flannel all year long, trust me, I would. Instead, I just settle for living it up once the fall hits—or as I like to think of it, flannel-shirt season. L.L.Bean is mecca for all the outdoorsy, lived-in yet fitted-looking flannel your heart desires, and you can shop a variety of colors and fits online or in-stores for men, women, and even children. My personal favorite? The Scotch Plaid, which comes in a relaxed fit style and works as a standalone style or for layering. For fellas, the Wcked Good flannel in traditional fit adds a rugged yet stylish touch to any fall ensemble.

Get the Scotch Plaid Flannel Shirt, Relaxed Fit for $44.99-$49.95
Get the Wicked Good Flannel Shirt, Traditional Fit Houndstooth for $64.95
4. A pair of ‘wicked good’ moccasins

A few Christmases ago, I was gifted a pair of these moccasins in brown and they’re easily the most comfortable slippers I’ve ever owned. Made with sheepskin and lined with ultra-soft shearling, these things are the closest I’ve ever come to feeling like I’m walking on a cloud. Because they come with a hard rubber outsole, you could technically wear them out for errands and such, but I don’t—they seem to last longer if you only wear them indoors.

The one downside, in my experience, is that the shearling gets matted pretty quickly—they’re still comfortable, but they do start to show their wear more readily than other Bean products. These Wicked Good moccasins are still totally worth it though.

Get the Women’s Wicked Good Moccasins for $69.99
Get the Men’s Wicked Good Moccasins for $79
5. A backpack that’s basically indestructible

L.L.Bean’s backpacks are iconic for a reason: they’re virtually indestructible. Stylish, roomy, and designed to take a shocking amount of abuse and still stay intact, it’s no surprise that these things are such a hit, especially with kids. The Quad Pack is our all-time favorite backpack for students because of how resilient it can be, especially over frequent use.

Whether you’re buying one for your son or daughter or you’re grabbing one for yourself, these backpacks age with you, which is nice. Some reviewers even say they’ve held onto the same Bean backpacks all through school and I believe it. Don’t forget to spring for the monogram, too. (This is a Bean backpack, after all.)

Get the L.L. Bean Quad Pack from L.L. Bean for $89.95
Get the L.L.Bean Deluxe Book Pack for $39.99-$49.95
Get the L.L.Bean Super Deluxe Book Pack for $49.99-$59.95
6. These fleece pullovers that dads love

I mentioned moms earlier, but all dads have approximately two eras: the pre-L.L.Bean Fleece pullover era and post-L.L.Bean pullover era. Most of us only know our dads in the post-pullover period, where he cares more about comfort and leisure than say, the leather jackets, band t-shirts, and tight-fitted denim jeans he probably rocked in the pre-pullover period (a.k.a. the version of your dad that your mom fell in love with). It’s cool though, because with a pullover this warm and versatile, who wouldn’t want to stock up?

7. These super-soft throw blankets

The beauty of a good throw blanket is that it’ll never judge you for spending an entire Sunday eating ice cream and watching Friends. Instead, it’ll keep you bundled up and cozy while you scream at Ross for messing things up again. At L.L.Bean, you can snag some incredible options if you’re in the market for a throw blanket you could spend a whole day snuggled under, so whether you prefer wool or flannel, there’s definitely one that’ll be there for you for every binge session.

8. The best water bottle we’ve ever used

You don’t want to embark on your next outdoor adventure without a plan for how you’ll stay hydrated. Water bottles are a must-have for any kind of trip, and they can also help you consume the recommended amount of water daily, even when you’re not trekking through the wilderness. When it comes to water bottles, you can score our favorite water bottle, the Hydro Flask, at L.L.Bean. We love this brand, since it can keep water icy cool for up to a day at a time.

Plus, reviewers say they pretty much last forever (like so much else at L.L.Bean). You can get the carrying bag it comes with monogrammed too, and since this is the Bean we’re talking about here, you obviously have to do that.

10. A raincoat that’s built to last

Rainy days don’t necessarily mean you need to stay stuck indoors. If you’re an avid outdoorsman (or person), all you need is the right gear. Raincoats from L.L.Bean are perfect for this reason, since they hold up in the wind and rain and are designed to last for many seasons to come. As an added perk, these raincoats come with a detachable hood, so you can switch it up when needed. Plus, they’re even machine washable.

11. This classic cotton-lined coat

This cotton-lined coat was meant to hold up against the elements back when it was originally introduced in 1924, but these days you’re more likely to find it on the backs of your local hipsters, at least if you live in the city. That’s okay though, because whether you’re hunting or just headed to a new microbrewery, it will keep you warm throughout the fall and winter months, and it can keep you looking on trend every step of the way.

Get the Original Field Coat for $139

12. A traditional cable-knit sweater that you can wear anywhere

When you think of cable-knit sweaters, this is probably the look you’re really aspiring for. This Irish-inspired fisherman’s sweater has the kind of enduring appeal that works for anyone. The stitchwork gives it added texture, while the cotton material is heavy yet breathable, so you can wear it comfortably through the fall and winter.

Get the Women’s Signature Cotton Fisherman Tunic Sweater for $94.99-$109.99

13. This heated blanket makes a great gift

File this under things that make awesome gifts, especially around the holidays. This heated blanket is nothing like those scratchy old heated blankets you’ve probably seen in the past. Instead, it’s made with multiple layers that are designed to direct the flow of heat back to your body. Lush and available in a variety of sizes, this blanket comes with easy-to-use controllers and an auto shut-off, so it’s safe to use in bed for as long as you need a little extra warmth.

14. These shoes that are perfect for a rainy day

These gumshoes are like a cross between Bean Boots and moccasins, which makes them seriously comfortable and also ideal for getting through the spring and fall. Get the Women’s L.L.Bean Gumshoes for $99
15. A fleece-lined flannel top for layering

Imagine your favorite L.L.Bean flannel becoming even more inviting, and that’s what you’re in for with these fleece-lined flannels. Whether you’re shopping for men or women, fleece-lined flannel is one of L.L.Bean’s most popular products and is highly rated by reviewers (the men’s option has nearly 1,000 reviews, for example). Terrific for layering or as a shirt itself, fleece-lined flannel like this can be a much-welcomed addition to your wardrobe come wintertime.

Get the Men’s Fleece-Lined Flannel Shirt, Traditional Fit, for $79
Get the Women’s Fleece-Lined Flannel Shirt, Snap-Front Plaid, foor $79
16. This dog bed that your pup won’t be able to resist

I’m not a dog owner (what can I say, I prefer cats), but I’ll take L.L.Bean reviewers at their word when they say that this is the best dog bed around. With over 600 reviews on the site, this 4.3-star rated dog bed comes in a variety of sizes and colors, so you can find the best fit for your favorite canine.

The nylon bag comes a water-resistant polyurethane coating, so it can hold up in even the most damp—or rugged—conditions. And it’s even designed to fit most carry-on requirements, so it’s perfect for travel too. You can also choose from multiple different shades to match your other travel gear.

Get the Adventure Duffle for $59.95

18. These cult-favorite flannel-lined jeans

I’ve had a few dreams in my life, friends. Flannel-lined jeans? Definitely one of them. While the idea of a cute pair of jeans lined with the softest flannel ever might seem like an invention that’s too good to be true, these do in fact exist, and they’re one of those cult-favorite items at L.L.Bean that shoppers can’t get enough of. While I haven’t worn this heavenly creation yet myself (I will be testing them out soon!), reviewers seem completely obsessed with them, especially during the winter months when you’ve got errands to run or worse, have to shovel out your car.

Get the L.L.Bean Performance Stretch Jeans for $89
Get the Men’s Double L Jeans, Flannel-Lined Natural Fit for $69.96
19. A pair of really warm wool socks

If you’re buying Bean Boots, it’s not crazy to have wool socks on the noggin too. And when it comes to thick socks, L.L.Bean definitely does it best. Made from itch-free Australian merino wool and nylon for extra stretch, the Merino Wool Ragg socks are a must-have for ladies. If you’re looking for socks that help support a more active lifestyle, you’ll definitely want to add the Cresta Hiking Socks to your cart before you check out, since they’re lightweight and will keep your feet warm (but not suffocated) on hikes and other excursions.

I don’t wear traditional pajamas very often, but I make an exception for L.L.Bean’s Cozy PJ Set. Aside from their obvious comfort, there’s something really quaint and nostalgic about wearing a set that immediately brings me back to childhood, Christmas mornings, and lounging around the house on the weekend. Whether you’re looking to treat yourself or stock up for the whole family, these pajamas are a great way to get a more restful night’s sleep.

Want another reason to stay in bed? Try these flannel sheets from L.L.Bean. We haven’t tested them, but these nearly 5-star rated sheets are insanely popular with shoppers, who described them as soft, “warm but not heavy” and nothing like the “flimsy, short, scratchy” flannel that other brands offer. They can definitely make your bed more inviting, and don’t we all want that?

You can wear them outside pretty easily, since they also have an anti-slip rubber sole for quality traction.

24. This thermal underwear that’s a winter necessity

I’ll be honest: I detest the look of thermal underwear. White long-johns look good on … well, no one (least of all me), but there’s no denying that thermal underwear serves a crucial purpose when you’re planning to be outdoors for an extended period of time. It’s definitely saved my butt from frostbite more times than I can count. L.L.Bean’s thermal underwear selections are more flattering than the cheaper varieties you can find on Amazon or at other retailers, and since they’re designed to be worn underneath clothing as it is, these will go great with a flannel top and pants in the cooler months.
