GM recalls more than 107,000 vehicles

General Motors is expanding an earlier recall of its Chevrolet Trax because a faulty part could cause a crash.

While the strike between the automaker and United Auto Workers continues, the automaker is recalling more than 107,000 of its small SUVs in the U.S. and Canada because a suspension weld can break and cause steering problems.

The recall covers the 2015 through 2018 Chevrolet Trax. The original recall in April covered the 2017 through 2019 model years.

According to documents posted Friday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, an improperly welded joint can break, which increases the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect the left and right front lower-control arms and replace them if needed. No date has been set for the recall to begin.

GM also recently announced the recall of more than 3.4 million big pickup trucks and SUVs to fix a brake problem.

To check to see if your vehicle has an open recall, go to the NHTSA’s website at www.nhtsa.gov/recalls and enter your car’s 17-digit vehicle identification number.

Chevrolet owners can also check my.chevrolet.com/recalls but it’s possible information about the new recall won’t be updated yet. 

GM says it notifies customers with affected vehicles within 60 days of a recall.
