Mall of America to reopen Wednesday

USA TODAYPublished 6:22 PM EDT Jun 5, 2020Mall of America is set to reopen Wednesday after closing in mid-March to prevent the spread of  COVID-19.The largest mall in the U.S. was scheduled to open earlier this week, but decided to postpone the date after protests erupted over the death of George Floyd, a black man who was pinned to the ground with a white police officer’s knee on his neck for nearly nine minutes in Minneapolis.The Minnesota-based mall, which has been closed since March 17, announced on its website it will reopen on June 10.Some changes the mall has incorporated when reopening:Floor markings have been installed to follow social distancing guidelines.The cleaning frequency has been increased.Food court and common area seating have been rearranged to account for social distancing.Additional touchless hand sanitizer stations have been added.Shopping hours have been reduced to allow for deep cleanings.Plexiglass dividers have been installed.The mall will operate under reduced hours from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz announced Friday the state would lift more business restrictions.
