Samsung’s AirDresser is a closet that cleans and steams garments

Samsung announced a new line of products on Wednesday, and one of the most innovative was a smart closet that freshens up your wardrobe so you don’t have to go to the dry cleaners anymore.

Called the AirDresser, the home gadget represents a “new way to refresh clothes,” according to Samsung. The closet looks like a narrow wardrobe with a touch screen panel on the front. On the inside, you’ll find Samsung’s Jet Air system which is said to loosen dirt.

“Consumers have high expectations, seeking dynamic performance even from home appliances and our mission is to meet those expectations directly,” said Samsung executive Taehwan Hwang in a press release.

You would seemingly use the device to hang your dirty pants, shirts and delicates. Then, the AirDresser would use steaming systems to revitalize them. The built-in hangers are broad enough to allow for the garments to be cleaned inside and outside.

The South Korean tech company says the AirDresser was “created for people who want to create a meaningful space that is filled with their personal style instead of stereotypical sentiments or interior designs.”

It has a filter that captures 99% of germs and keeps them from escaping back into the air, the company claims.

Samsung’s AirDresser was unveiled on Wednesday at IFA 2019, a trade show for consumer electronics and home appliances in Berlin, where the tech giant also showed off a new cordless vacuum cleaner and an air purification system.

Samsung is introducing the trio of gadgets to consumers in Europe initially, and it’s unclear if and when the company plans on expanding elsewhere. Prices also haven’t been announced.

Still, Samsung would not be the first company to introduce high-tech closets. LG offers a $1,500 “Styler” that refreshes clothes, linens and pillows. The closet-like system launched in 2018 and it’s Wi-Fi enabled.
