Scottish Toddler Becomes Youngest to Reach Mount Everest Base Camp
In a remarkable feat, a two-year-old boy from Scotland, Carter Dallas, is believed to have become the youngest person to reach the Mount Everest base camp. As reported by the UK-based Metro, Carter made the ascent to the base camp, located on the south side of Nepal at an altitude of 17,598 feet above sea level, while being carried on his father Ross’ back. His mother, Jade, accompanied them on this extraordinary journey.
The family, currently on a year-long trip around Asia, embarked on this adventure with their son, potentially breaking the world record previously held by a four-year-old Czech girl named Zara.
Ross, the boy’s father, shared that both he and his wife experienced slight altitude sickness during the climb, but Carter coped exceptionally well. “He was absolutely fine,” Ross said. Medics in the villages before the base camp were amazed by Carter’s resilience and health, as his blood test results were significantly better than his parents’.
To prepare for the journey, the family brought along food jackets and sleeping bags. They began their trek just 24 hours after landing in Kathmandu. Before reaching Nepal, the Dallas family had traveled to India, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and then to Malaysia and Singapore, where they celebrated Carter’s birthday at Universal Studios. Their travels also included a visit to Thailand.
Carter, embracing the local cuisines, developed a taste for chicken feet in Malaysia and particularly enjoys Pad Thai.
Ross and Jade embarked on their travel adventure in 2023, having rented out their house in Scotland and purchased three one-way tickets. Their journey is not only a testament to their adventurous spirit but also highlights Carter’s remarkable achievement at such a young age.
The family hopes that Carter’s achievement will be officially recognized as a world record. The current record holder, Zara, completed the 170-mile journey to the base camp, surpassing the previous record set by five-year-old Prisha Lokesh Nikajoo in 2023.
Carter’s accomplishment at Mount Everest base camp is not only a potential world record but also an inspiring story of a young child’s resilience and the adventurous spirit of a family exploring the world together. This remarkable journey showcases the incredible possibilities that await when families embark on extraordinary adventures.
