Target customers can now shop online then pick up purchases nationwide

Target customers nationwide will now be able to get their online orders ferried to their cars as the retailer expands its drive-up service to all 50 states.

The offering, which allows online and app shoppers to get purchases brought to their cars typically within two minutes of pulling into a Target parking lot, will be available for the first time at locations in nine states, including Alaska, Oregon, Hawaii,and Wyoming starting this week. The expansion brings the service to nearly 1,750 stores.

“Our team has worked hard to rapidly expand the service since its introduction less than two years ago to all 50 states,” says Dawn Block, senior vice president, digital.

In the fight to thrive in the age of Amazon, retailers are increasingly trying to make shopping as convenient and quick as possible.

Starting this fall, Walmart customers in Kansas City, Missouri, Vero Beach, Florida, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, can get online grocery orders dropped off right in their kitchen. 

Amazon shoppers meanwhile will be able to pick up their packages at designated counters inside more than 1,500 Rite Aid stores by the end of the year. That’s in addition to pick up options that include lockers at hotels, banks and other locations throughout the U.S., and the ability to get purchases brought directly into your home if you’re a Prime member.

Target’s drive-up service started out at 50 stores in the area around its headquarters in Minneapolis-St. Paul. Customers who want to get their online purchases right away can also do in-store pickup, or get their items delivered the same day through Target’s partnership with Shipt, a membership-based platform.
